I have to say this is a very odd road you've taken here Dale. I know Kevin is stuck with voting Republican for life based on his abortion beliefs...so I expect him to play this dumb political game but you're supposed to be the independent. What you both seem to miss...and it's kind of hilarious...is that only Kerry could make that speech...Bush could never utter those words. Why you would attempt to use Mr. Kerry's words against him is beyond me. It's dumb and only highlights the difference between Kerry and Bush...but feel free. I don't know John Kerry but I respect what he did for his country and have the sense to see it's more than Bush will ever do or could ever do.
About as eloquent as Mr. Bush gets is "Bring it on!"...which is easily the dumbest and most dangerous thing any president has ever uttered during a major address. He asked terrorists...who would gladly kill innocent civilians...kids even...to "Bring it on!" knowing we could not stop them from harming people. We've sunk quite low in this country when people will give someone a pass on that...that was you...your wife...your extended family...he was asking them to "Bring it on!" to...you're ok with that Dale? For this idiot to dangle your family, friends, whatever out there like that? Then all they could tell you to protect yourself was "Wrap your home in plastic."...read that as "Sorry, you're fucked!"
The point is this: What has changed in the 12 years since Kerry made this (IMHO) excellent speech?
In truth a lot has changed...12 years will do that.
Why was he all for uniting this country back then and now he's so keen on focusing on and exploiting the differences between the two parties now?
Dale...be serious here. What exactly do you think Kerry is doing or saying you'd call exploitation? How is he no longer for uniting the country? Of the two, it's our buddy Bush who's created real division and continues to work that angle. The guy has caused nothing but division. What the hell has Kerry done?
His call for unity has morphed into something else all together. Twelve years ago he sounded truly concerned about this country. He sounded very presidential. If he made this same speech today he'd probably have my vote.
Dale, keep in mind Kerry can make that kind of speech...and he's the guy that said those words you like so much...from Bush we get "Bring it on!" and "I don't need a permission slip!"...great stuff. I honestly can't believe you'd give Bush a pass on that crap.
But today he's saying things that contradict the major components of his earlier speech.
Like what?
Things that, he hopes, will help get him elected. So what is most important to him now? Damned if I know but it sure sounds like gettin' 'lected..
Kerry has said and done nothing that's even is in the same ballpark as what Bush has said and done. Now, in case you didn't notice Kerry is running in a primary trying to get elected...that would be the point...so are you saying you don't understand that idea? Are you saying Kerry is a liar? You're not really being honest here Dale...accusing Kerry of "trying to get elected"...my god that's aweful...
