Icon American Myopia and Empathy, American Style...

One thing that greatly troubles me when it comes to the world beyond our borders is our myopia when it comes to other cultures and our lack of empathy. There are some things all people have in common and one is the love of our children.

I envy those with "normal" jobs because often times I look at my three little girls and can't help thinking of all the evil fucking things I see every day and how neurotic it has made me. In our world there is a potential molester hiding behind every tree. A stray bullet always being fired. A potential abductor on the street.

And I think all of us can agree that raw hatred is a terrible emotion to possess, but what is even worse is teaching it to our children. Don't get me wrong; I am not trying to justify the extremism that would love to see Americans off of the face of the earth, but somewhere there has to be a way for all of us to exist.

One time while working a black man was holding his young daughter in his arms. In his hatred for white police officers he was pointing at all of us white police officers and telling his young daughter not to ever trust "him, him, her, him or him." That if she ever needed help to never go to a white cop. That has been one of the most devastating things I have ever seen - teaching a child to fear and hate police.

My point is, that we adults are fucking all this up when it comes to our children. To me, true virtues are borderless and not being taught. So, whether one hates the adult in this picture is pointless. It's that little boy on the ground that matters and all of us adults are all fucking it up.........
