As far as your fingers go, learn on a nylon string classical or spanish style guitar.

A far as motivation goes, A) remember that you can succeed at learning, and B), learn early on the 6 basic open chords in their root position--E A D G C and F . These chords will give you the basics of almost every folk, rock, or country song. Learn your major scale. "do re mi fa so la ti do" Listen to what youre playing. Let your ears familiarise themselves with the sound of the major chords and the major scale. The reason that the major scale is important is that when you get to more extended chords, you'll need the scale to be able to figure out hows to extend them. For instance, an A6 chord is an A major with an added 6, a "la". An A minor chord is an A major chord with a flatted 3rd, or a "mi" taken down a half step.

Learn some classical or brazilian pieces, with a teacher who can show you the correct right hand technique. Good right hand technique is a pain to learn, but if you dont learn it early, you'll have so many bad habits later on that you might never get it.
