I've got to agree with Greenie on this. For a lot of people,
internationalism means A: slave labor in Third World countries;
B: the gutting of the manufacturing (and tax base) of most of the
developed nations, leading to more A; and C:
untrammelled use and abuse of power by multinational
corporations, leading to even more A and B. I like Mom and Pop
shops, myself, for more reasons than I can even begin to list. I also really recommend looking into the Apollo Alliance. What we've been dealing with since the end of WWII is the growing
power of a sort of supranational oligarchy of multinationals, mostly
in the oil and gun businesses, and, while those have been solid
industries for a lot of middle class people, the fallout from their
preeminence has been pretty horrendous overall.What's needed is a new American industry, and the Apollo Alliance
recommends that, as a nation, we get into the alternate energy
business in a major major (think Manhattan Project) way. I really
like their ideas, myself. I think theyre really forward thinking and
positive, and I think this general idea of America leading the way in
freeing the world from oil, while strengthening the middle class,
and the sciences, is truly an idea for the ages. Sadly, few are
listening, least of all the oil and weapons plutocrats in DC.
