DavidM said - As for Bush, it also seems to me that he is more than willing to distance himself from Lott and sacrifice him for the minority vote he needs to get re-elected. We can all make grand statements that our guy is some kind of wonderful leader, but the reality is they are all primarily over-sized egos willing to do what ever it takes to get re-elected.
And then Pat said - Yada Yada Yada
Brilliant response Pat. But you're still missing the whole point here. If what Lott did was so inconsequential and if this IS all just a media snow job, then why oh why is GW being so tight lipped about it. This is his point man in the Senate right? The same guy he's expecting to push through his agenda. It would seem to me that someone that important to GW would be worth defending. Unless, of course, you consider the obvious...which is GW is going to let him dangle out there in the wind until he either resigns or is pushed out in a power grab...the latter being the most probable. It also doesn't hurt GW to be quiet on this issue either...he wouldn't want to piss off his southern base - who - like you - don't see much wrong with what Lott said and did. Yada yada that.
