pshaw …i once sat in attendance @ a guitar store while michael mcclure read some verse and ray manzarek played a bit of piano …& it was a hugely memorable night. & i’ve never been moved to anguish or tears by ray manzerek’s songwriting (…although i was inspired to emote theatrically in front of a small mojave desert college class while reading mcclure’s “…Death of a 100 Whales”. Not merely for the deaths of the whales…but for the mocking duality of one sort of ruthless/aimless/reckless killer mass slaughtering another equally ruthless but purposeful killer in the farthest corner of an oceanic place where one doesn’t necessarily belong & the other has no other choice but to be.)
