Well, looks like I've drilled into a libertarian nerve here at DBIS. Libertarianism is a particularly
American political philosophy: you won't find it anywhere else in the world. That's because it's based
in that uniquely American mythos: the sacredness of private property, equal opportunity for all,
raising yourself up by your bootstraps. You know... John Wayne, Horatio Alger, Ayn Rand. Ronald
Reagan was a prime talker around this fable, though he certainly never practiced what he preached,
creating even bigger government and running up a national debt that has only been surpassed by the
Bush Administration.
The trouble with Libertarianism as national policy is that it's a philosophy of individualism, and
as
such it, like monasticism, is best left to practice in remote areas where you can live off the grid, shoot
your own food, and have as many wives as will have you.
I chose Ron Paul's anti-choice stance as an example of the inherent flaw in his philosophy (and
no GM.
I am not a 'single-issue' voter. You can go back and look at all my previous posts over the years). If
Libertarians are so rah rah about individual rights how do they (you) square policy that excludes
women from the right to make their own decisions? Sounds just a little paternal to me.
Hypocrites and fantasists. And really if you want to throw in crap like mandatory euthanasia and
black
helicopters and tell me I'm the one divorced from reality then i'll settle for divorce.
