GWB said that America is addicted to oil, and that's one of the few statements of his that I agree with (regardless of how hypocritical it was of him to state). I guess I look at this in the perspective of any other addiction--continuing to feed it is the least healthy thing that can be done, and adds nothing to the process of removing the dependency. I'm fully aware that it's a challenging situation, but to me, drilling for more oil, whether it's in Alaska, North Dakota, or the Gulf of Mexico is like buying another case of MadDog for the neighborhood wino. Sure, it keeps the shakes away for another day or 2, but it only serves to remove any initiative to get well.
