Gene,

We can't begin to understand the hows and whys of this life and all we're left with at times is a feeling that life is unfair.  Keep the faith and continue to pray for Dan that he will know God's peace and that he will find comfort there.  If I remember right I believe you said Dan and his wife have two daughters.  They're going to need everybody's prayers too.
