i enjoyed it a lot as well, from start to finish, and even though we were confined to an island i never knew where visually we were going next, whether it be the edge of a cliff or through a storm-swept forest... i must say, though, that i was immediately suspicious when teddy 'couldn't find' his smokes... shudder... it was nicely creepy, an homage both to the shining and some of hitchcock's stylized methods, as you've said... to me, the message, if there was any, was that violence is innate and experience subjective... depending on the drugs you're taking... ;) and what of all those rats? hallucination??
also: watched most of 'a prophet' last night... riveting...
