I've been wondering the same thing along with what if the goal of the committee is something different than what is the obvious.
Part of me believes that Washington Democrats are behind the eight ball when it comes to modern politics. That they are still playing by the politics of 20 years ago. I think this is one of Biden's biggest failures - that he is stuck in the politics of the past and is refusing to leave that bubble. (I almost wonder if this is partially behind the recent reporting of staff leaving the Biden Admin - that these people have recognized what politics is today and are having no luck pulling Biden forward).
Several years ago I read a complex piece on how the Framers perceived "the pursuit of happiness" versus how people of today misinterpret their interpretation (today's people think more in terms of being physically and mentally happy, while the Framers had a much more complex and deeper interpretation of "the pursuit of happiness." I wish I could find that piece again, but my point is, what if the those on this committee have a much deeper or complex goal rather than dumping Trump and the masses just aren't seeing it.
What I would love to see is the Democrats cause this large portion of Trump die hards to become so toxic to voters that they are seen as too disgusting to pursue their votes for anyone, but I seriously doubt that will happen (and even if it could happen).
Still, the Dems really need to use some drama more to really punch home certain points.
(Years ago on my desk at work, I had a printed out comment from the father of a murdered child for inspiration. It was his reply to a judge that made a comment about how judges need to be impartial people that made decisions without emotion and feeling. The father's words basically said no to that and judges needed to get down and wallow in the pain and horror so that they could understand the devastation left behind in murder cases - THAT is what Democrats need to show more of - care and feeling and outrage instead of antiseptic, emotionless, just-the-facts personalities).
To me, one of Trump's biggest successes was to sell this image of fighting like hell for his people and how his people believed it (even though in reality that was a complete myth of bullshit and just one more of his scams). Biden needs to really internalize that and do the same but in his case it would be genuine.
