look at the flurry of average (legal)citizen-oriented legislation that was signed in the last few weeks and it just turns the stomach to see that these people actually do need the threat of a pink slip in order to do the people's business.
what amazed me was to hear State Sen. Don Peralta on TV last night, talking about how 'this election sent a message, and we're big on messages, blah blah blah'. like, you morons were't clear as to what you're supposed to be doing up there? no, clearly they're not, what with being surrounded all day by donors, lobbyists and the like. waaaay out of touch with reality, these people. fine, then. send more messages, folks, your elected 'representatives' need 'em. also rather incredulous that simple concepts like not spending more than you have seem like revelations to these people.
and Ahnold...hoo boy, we've done it now. i would have preferred that my 'told you so from the get-go' be shoved down my throat, but no... well, there's always the next election/recall/whatever. all those casual (read: underinformed) voters, punching the lever for a political cypher that they know only from the movies...it is to laugh, cry, move to Canada. i strongly suspect that the pages of this facade's playbook are going to be more from the Reagan/Bush manual than people realize. and how he's going to walk the gossamer tightrope between cutting taxes and services without hurting his beloved children is going to be highly entertaining. far be it from me to hope he falls off like a Tuetonic Flying Wallenda.
