I'll bet the folks on the REO Speedwagon Message Board are not weighing in on this issue and the fact that we are is a testament to DB's willingness to explore a multitude of issues in his music. Anyway, with regard to the comment that this thing happens beyond our borders as well, the following statistics are eye-opening: Deaths due to firearms per 100,000 population: USA 13.7, Australia 3.05, Canada 4.08, Germany 1.47, Sweden 2.31, Spain 1.01 UK .57 Japan .07 We do love our guns in this country. I'm neither a criminologist nor a sociologist but gun availability (in excess of 200 million), combined with lack of parental involvement (70& of black children are born to unwed mothers and 50% of white children), a moronic war on drugs which perpetuates violence, a popular culture which glorifies irresponsible sex and violence, and, in general, a society that says you don't have to defer pleasure today for some greater satisfaction down the road. That's my two cents. Sure to piss off the conservatives and liberals. I don't own a gun and I have never understood the attraction. Look forward to the responses.
