Yep, it was 40 years ago today, Beatles on Ed Sullivan.  And they're on the "cover of the Rolling Stone", yet again. Anyways, if you can get it/rent it, get the "Beatles first US visit" on DVD or video.  Worth the viewing, believe me.  Documents their arrival at Kennedy airport, goofing around in their hotel room at the Waldorf Astoria, and their performances on Ed Sullivan, as well as their first US concert in Washington DC at the Civic Arena (it was a boxing venue, the stage was in the center, and they had to keep turning around, equipment included to face each section of the audience).

John Lennon was surly even then...and really didn't seem to dig the hype and the nonstop assault by the press.  The obnoxious DJ Murray the "K", kept butting in, and when he didn't even know the title to Love Me Do...Lennon called him (and this was VERY clear in the film), a WANKER...

as in "No..it was Love Me Do..Wanker!".

Murray misses the point entirely, obviously having never heard the term, goes back on the air (by phone), and laughs that he was called a "wacker...that's me..Murray the wacker...heh heh.."  (What a putz!).   Great film, check it out.   I think it was re-released as a DVD with more footage very recently.
