Ok, I'll answer those questions but I'll point out they have nothing to do with my post on the media and Iran. Also, be fair and answer the questions I ask you after I answer yours.
1. Do believe there is a need for a war on Terror? My answer to this is I don't think there should be a "War on Terror" but I think there should be a war waged against terrorists. The two are not the same thing and a "War on Terror" is an umbrella term specifically designed to allow an abuse of executive powers, funnel public funds to specific corporate interests, and destroy democracy worldwide. If you are asking if I think certain action needs to be taken to make Americans safer, the answer to that is, yes. What I think is interesting about the Bush "War on Terror" is that it does not involve doing the specific things that would make Americans safer but instead is just a giant flashing neon sign that says "Attack us!"...that "War on Terror" we certainly do not need. I mean come on, Pat, 6 years after 9/11 and nothing has been done to secure our borders or ports and the Bush administration working to make our borders even more porous...seriously, what do you think their "War on Terror" is? Iraq is not about fighting terror, it's an insurgency and everybody knew that's where it was going to go. Our troops aren't there fighting a war they are acting as police and parading around so they can be used for target practice. We may as well line them up on the White House lawn and let Cheney take pot shots at them out the window. We aren't winning anything being there at this point, Bush just wants to leave them there to die so the next administration has to deal with getting them out. They are just political pawns and this administration cares nothing about their lives. So, I think we should be doing something to stop terrorists not playing policeman in Iraq.
2. If #1 is yes do you want to win the war on terror?
Well if you are talking about the Bush definition of "War on Terror" there is no way to "win" that and that's specifically how they designed it. That's meant to go on and on for generations. I'd like to do something about terrorism and to do that we need to start by addressing specific policy issues and not putting up a huge neon sign that says "Come and get us!"Basically to start "winning" we need to get the hell out of Iraq and divert our resources to the problem. One huge step would be to tell the American people who the terrorists are and why they want to attack the United States. This would begin by declaring what foreign policy mistakes we made and how we plan to address them. Not by sitting there announcing daily "They hate us!", "They want to kill us!"
3. Do you believe 911 was an inside job?
I believe there are a lot of unanswered questions about it that certain people seem determined not to answer. I don't really have a lot of hope about ever getting to the bottom of any of that and I'm sort of more concerned with fixing our problems than chasing down 9/11 inside job stuff. Other people are doing that and if they get somewhere great. Hey, people still talk about who killed JFK and there are still two camps on that...lone gunman or it was a planned conspiracy. I don't really feel we have 40 years to debate that when there are more pressing issues to deal with.
4. Are you familiar with what it took to win WWII?
This is actually my favorite question you have posed. Do you know our war in Iraq has now gone on longer than all of World War II? World War II began on December 7, 1941 and ended officially on May 8, 1945 that's 1,248 days, Pat. The war in Iraq began on March 19, 2003 and today is November 9, 2007 and there is no end in sight. Let me also say if Roosevelt were president and we had the same group of politicians in office now that were there in 1941 there is no way in hell FDR and that congress would approve diverting funds and lives to a war with Iraq...a country that never attacked us and had no ties to the 9/11 attack. In fact if we had that congress in office now they would have already impeached Bush and Cheney. So the only comparison with World War II we should be discussing is this pathetic bullshit has already gone on longer than it took us to win a war in the entire European and Pacific theatres. What is your point?
If you want to stop terrorists that's fine, Pat, so do the rest of us but you don't fight these guys that work in the dark and their secret plans to create terror by running around holding up signs that say "War on Terror today is right here" it's just dumb. This fight is nothing like WWII and the fact that we are trying to fight it that way is crazy. So, did you even read my post and watch the videos I put up before you asked me this stuff? I mean where did you come up with the 9/11 question?
