"I have not bought concert tickets in a long while but way back when (ha!) the best seats all sold out first. I just wondered if this was a new trend... "It is. Whether they're called "Golden Circle" or something else, a lot of venues and/or acts are selling premium seats for those that are willing to pay. Some bands even have special seating on the wings of the stage so that the beautiful folks can be as close as possible to the aging artist of their choice. I've only been to one show like that, and quite honestly I wouldn't sit there if I got the seats for free, as the view is more limited in some ways than the cheap seats in the rafters. I'd have to think the sound wouldn't be so good either, as (at least at the show I saw) the seats were inside the PA.
