Well, Van's pretty much a statue when he performs...those chorus girl kicks he did in The Last Waltz are way behind him now. You certainly don't need to be in his lap to enjoy his show. I like seeing a show in a club anyway. Or in Levon Helm's living room...can't beat that. I'd pay a grand to see Van there.
