***From mainstream America, yes. From the far left, I don't think so. They'd just sit on their hands and say nothing (which is what's happening now) or they'll twist it around so they can get credit for it.*** I'm curious who you lump in with the "far left." From my perspective, the left has been basically silent since September 11, 2001. Daschle, Gore, etc. don't count. I suspect you're talking about fringe weenies who no one takes seriously anyway.
***I believe the opposite has occured. A large majority of Americans have rallied around this administration. At least that what the polls are showing. The only thing he is destroying is the influence of the far left.*** Hogwash. Perhaps you're unable to hear the dissenting voices because they're being shouted down with cries of "Un-American." I'll grant you that people have rallied around the administration since we fired up the perpetual war machine. However, the level of political discourse in this country has sunk to abominable levels, and that is due in no small part to the administration's insistence on painting every situation in strokes of simple black and white. Good vs. evil. You're with us or against us. So on and so forth. When Vince goddamn Gill has to call station directors around the country pledging his support for the war after saying the Dixie Chicks had been "bashed enough"...I mean, shit, whatever happened to a middle ground? Whatever happened to civilized discourse? The administration has polarized this country.
As for destroying the influence of the far left, I don't know what you're talking about. Clinton did that far more successfully over a decade ago.
***What do you base this opinion on? If the man lacks credibility, why do millions of Americans, read his books, watch his TV show or listen to his radio show? For laughs? I think he can be rude and obnoxious at times but he does not lack credibility.*** I base this opinion on his tabloid roots and his utter lack of objectivity. He doesn't need hard news-reporting credibility to sell books--witness Rush Limbaugh and Michael Moore. He's an entertainer with an agenda.
