Interesting idea David. My first question would be.
1. Are the songs all over the musical spectrum? I remember when you were debating Big Band stuff and all. The answer matters not just a question on the variety of the music
I've been wondering to myself how I'm going to reconcile my strictly scoring-type duties with the unfortunate fact that I simply cannot prevent myself from writing songs. I wonder if there would be any serious interest among the members of this board in an I-tunes-like service on this board--- where I could post recent songs for limited purchase on a song by song basis, like "Itunes", with careful descriptions of each song, so nobody buys something theyre guaranteed to hate. Brutal critiques of each song would be welcomed, as well, to further protect any buyer from out and out shite. I've written probably 50 full length songs since A Fine Mess, and I'll have a new studio up and running June 12, so production wouldnt really be a problem, time allowing.
In answer to this question because I have a great deal of involvement(although DanO would make the final call) I would think the following would work quite well.
1. You use this site in conjunction with something like ITunes because we could supply the links to Itunes from our site. I as I have done in the past could put together a rating system and comment system for each song and so us the fans could help you compile what might be a re-leaseable product(album ala AFM II or whatever you want to call it). I would suggest putting up 1 to 4 songs a week for rating. If you put up the whole enchalata it won't work because every one will be overwhelmed
It does seem kind of a shame that nobody ever hears these songs, as some of them, I think, are pretty good. I mean, I get pleasure from them, but that does get sort of onanistic. And given schedules and insecurity and such, it'd probably be a pretty sporadic, inspiration-driven thing, but it would at least be a reason to gradually record and release these songs, without the messy ego-ness of the pop biz. Any thoughts?
I cannot think of a better idea of the one you just suggested David. Thanks for the post. This could be interesting
