She was a great pick at the time for them because a) the extreme Jesians are pre-disposed in the
extreme to her and might make a bunch more of them show up at the polls than they would for
McCain who has merely opposed abortion instead of super-duper opposing it and many of em don't
seem to know about her church's speaking in tongues aspects (although they sure like the pray to
cure the gay parts) and b) it certainly does make the talk (for a time, this is changing some now, I
sense) all about gender and race and interesting family constructs (although I'm betting the McCain
folks didn't know just how interesting). And not issues created by the likes of the Bush voting
Maverick guy.For McCain to win, big numbers need to come out for him in some states that are severely hurting
economically--- and to get the ones who vote on a few socials issues and who might also be less
than enamored, let's say, by a man of color in the White House (I sadly have a couple of these people
in my own family) to come out they cynically and perhaps correctly bet that these sorts would show up
more readily if Palin was aboard on the Straight Bullshit Express. Romney is a Mormon. Evangelicals think Mormons are freaks. Romney, who I have seen up close and
personal on a few occasions, is an empty suit who would leave countless Ohioans sitting on their
couches on November 4th and not at the polls. Palin, no matter how moronic and unprepared she is,
will certainly get a lot more of them to put down that remote long enough to cast their ballot. Scary, but true. I wish I thought that the big numbers of Dems registered and the big drop in the
number of registered Republicans and the fact that polls are all wrong because they just don't take in
the population the way they should because of the preponderance of cell phones--I wish I thought it
all meant that the Dems were gonna win, but I just don't know. People might just elect McCain and
Palin. As Mr. Zevon once sang, "Some people like to be punished/They keep coming back for more."
