"Does anybody want to take a shot at explaining why Palin was a great pick for VP?"

She's an NRA member, staunchly pro-life (even in the face of having a child with Downs), professes to be a devout Christian, claims to be a political reformer, is female, and (at least to some) is physically attractive.

The first 2 points can't be argued (and are nearly enough for me to dislike her off the bat), the 3rd point is subjective, but awfully attractive to a big block of voters, and the last 2 points should be completely irrelevant. What we're left with is a nice little package that the gun-nuts, Christian wing-nuts, and pro-lifers in general can get behind.

Basically, any single issue voter will find something to like here, unless that single issue is foreign policy or the economy. Except I've never met a single issue voter whose issue wasn't guns, abortion, or religion. And at least in my opinion, those single issue voters generally don't care to scratch too much below the surface.

Thank god her poll numbers are sinking, and the focus on the economy should continue to keep them going that way.
