You miss the big picture. I'll say it again. Once Hamas became the government, not an insurgent group, they could no longer claim that some small fraction of Palestinians are the hostile force. When the government backs warlike actions, that's a war, not a terrorist act. Collateral damage sucks, but it happens.

Would Israel be smarter to pursue a different tactic? Perhaps. But merely quoting death statistics is pretty meaningless in a war. Would you rather the Israeli army "take it easy" in order to equilibrate the casualties? This is what militaries do.

No rockets, no Gaza incursion.
