See, this is another thing about this incident that irks me. Gates is the one who drug race into it. Here is something that is being completely ignored because this incident is primarily being ignored from the police officer's eyes: When we go on calls, we have to force ourselves to not see calls in a "routine" manner. Most good (and I mean tactically good) officers never refer to traffic stops as "routine" because we in this field know no call for service should be seen as "routine." I mention this because people mention Gates is a 58 year old man. Typically, there aren't too many 58 year old residential burglars, but they do exist. Not only that, Gates could have been a drunk, ex-husband looking for his ex-wife to assault and was breaking in her house. What I'm getting at is tactically safe officers keep their mind open to be able to adapt and respond to varying factors in calls for service.
But back to the claims of "racially profiling" - Gates brought that up and the continued linking of "racial profiling" by way of using this as an example does the debate over "racial profiling" no good. In this incident, Gates was not a "victim" of "racial profiling."
