In terms of what went on with the officer, I think Gates was a victim of a pissing contest, nothing more. Both he and the officer have piss on their pantlegs now, metaphorically speaking.

In terms of the overall incident, I absolutely believe that Gates was the victim of racial profiling, broadly understood. Why did that neighbor woman call the incident in? She was in Cambridge, and saw two black guys pushing on a door.

Had it been two white guys pushing on a door, do you honestly believe Miss Cambridge would have been so quick to hit the panic button?

Maybe she should also get a call from the prez, and go have a beer with him in the White House. I'd vote for that.
