The 1st time I really talked with him was the 2nd or 3rd show I went to down at the Steamboat. Quite animated and I think he spun a story about stealing cars and getting bailed out just before Boomtown was released. At the time he was excited about he move to Austin and was really wanting the record to do well. I dont think he ever enjoyed performing as much as he liked writing. After the mini-tour was done I went to the show after that and he seemed more confident on stage and the band to me had really jelled. I just knew he would pull some strings and get on Leno or Letterman and get the ball rolling but that was not to be. Had the record taken off I wonder if he would have enjoyed the ride. I remember him telling me that one of if not the 1st shows he did after Boomtown was in Italy in front of like 100,000 people and it was more than overwhelming.
