I think that Gruno has a point here about Mr. Roth still being out there giving it a go. The reasons for this though are probably many and include the fact that the guy never was a great talent and with limited skills come limited options. Playing front man for a hyped up frat rock band is not really a marketable skill as you age. It does get more and more ridiculous as time goes by, hair falls out, your waistline grows, dentures replace teeth, and you collect royalties as well as social security. Still, you gotta give the guy a little credit for pressing onward and there are a hell of a lot worse things he could do.
I never liked Van Halen and always though Eddie was all flash and technique and no soul. Their music always sounded so empty to me. Maybe people thought it was fun, and a song or two could go on a party compilation for children of the 80's to give them warm fuzzies about their collage days.
I don't think you can give anyone about playing clubs or clubs that serve BBQ. I mean as far as I'm concerned it's in these clubs where all the best live music takes place. Hockey rinks and football stadiams are where the music takes a back seat to money and show biz. If I were to list my top 10 shows I've seen there wouldn't be a stadium or rink involved.
To a certain extent I do think it's odd that 80's hair metal bands, or people like Aerosmith, are still prancing around on stage in the same spandex and women's clothing that they wore in the 80's. I mean at some point you do have to put the lipstick down boys.
It always seemed funny to me to that Bad Boy rock always involved cross dressing and make up and how frat boys would flock to this like it was the most manly music ever made. Just a thought.
