Icon Re: The Trump court strategy, there actually is one, sort of...

I think his lawyers know and have told him that he is likely to lose all or most of these cases barring them getting him off on some sort of technicality. They expect to lose so the defense won't be that he did not do these things, it will be some kind of argument that he should not be charged for them or is immune from them or on appeal a claim of bias and so the first trial was not fair.

So, the strategy is delay-lose-appeal-delay-scream bias-search for technicalities.

Basically, we'll likely be watching this for years to come. The key is diminishing or removing Trump as someone that is viable to run for president. He's destroyed all the rules and expectations. Before Trump, if a guy that was president said his job as president did not include upholding and defending the Constitution, well, that would be it. People would not vote for the guy.

Now, Trump says it, his lawyers actually try to use that argument in court, that he has no obligation to uphold or abide by the Constitution, and his voters and far worse elected Republicans have no problem with this.

He quotes Hitler, and elected Republicans say nothing about it. He says he is going to start locking up his enemies, use the insurrection act to put the military on our streets the second he is elected, and his fellow Republicans are silent. Like that is just normal stuff.

His voters may not be bright enough to understand or perhaps just want this kind of fascism but the elected officials, they know better, yet still go along.

The funny part is, if the elected Republicans and party officials all got behind Nikki Haley, which supposedly they can't do until it is just her and Trump left running, well, she probably would beat Biden in the general election.

I can see no reason to support Trump for them unless it is that they really want him to get his shot to declare himself emperor. Trump has said, he will demand and enforce nothing but 100% loyalty to him above all else, including country, once elected, everyone else will be purged, jailed, locked away. They are already making lists and prescreening people that can serve in the next Trump administration and they are the worst of the worst that will do what he says with no consideration for law, life, or liberty.

They have even said the media will be shut down and even people known to have watched MSNBC could find themselves in jail. Steve Bannon claims these are not threats, they are what will happen.

We keep sitting here, waiting and waiting for what will be the "last straw" for Republicans, when they will reject Trump, well, now it is supposedly getting things down to Nikki or Donald. I don't think they can afford to wait for that.

Mostly, I have believed Trump has no shot at getting elected. I think he loses to whomever the Democrat is, Biden, Harris, Newsome...whatever. However, now there is a real wild card, RFK Jr. is said to be going to draw more support than any third party candidate, more than Ross Perot. The key is who he hurts more, Biden (or whomever the Democrat is), or Trump (or whomever the Republican is).

Some think he will harm Trump more, some think he would harm Biden more. I think if he really gets close to a third of the vote...well...the margins are then all unpredictable. What we are basically counting on here is Trump has lost almost all of the independent vote, so he trails both Biden and RFK Jr. with independent voters and that is supposed to be the deciding factor. This really, logically, means Trump should lose but if the independent voters were the Democrats hole card, and most of them go to RFK, then the margin between the Democrat and the Republican gets even tighter. Let's face it, it will be a Drmocrat or a Republican that will be the next president.
