Erich Fromm said that about 35% of humans, notwithstanding culture or national grouping, long for the simplicity of a harsh "daddy figure" and authoritarian rule, even with the cognitive dissonance and need for self-delusion that are required. Then from there a sort of non-linear spectrum of people who could tolerate it, then a similar percentage who could not tolerate it at all.
