It's how I see it, yes, but not everybody sees it.

Having had this conversation now with several people, including Democrats, Republicans, and Independents...well, the big thing that comes out, nearly every single time is food costs. It is true, they are up and have not gone back down to a level that makes people feel comfortable. Gas and oil have come down, so energy costs are down, which should help alleviate some of that pain. However, whatever cost is up is where focus is drawn.

I notice food costs as well. Some of it I completely understand. One industry that has not recovered and continues to tilt into decline is the restaurant industry. Everything for them suddenly shot up at a rate they could not contend with. With food costs up, their supply costs are up, as are their employee costs. The result is many of these businesses are folding up. Many people complain that going out to eat now is ridiculously expensive.

This is true, I've seen it. A simple sandwich that at only two years ago was $8.00 is now $16.00 in many places. The average cost of going out to dinner at a restaurant for two people, in my experience, went from on average about $60-$80 dollars to $110-$125 for the same meal. I mean, that's where I live, Massachusetts, I don't know about other parts of the country.

I know people in the restaurant business, chefs that have been doing this stuff for years, and it went from a hard business to operate to a near impossible one for many. Many of them threw in the towel and are looking for career changes.

Outside of this area though, economically, Team Biden I think has done an amazing job. If that actually would sink in with the population, well, it would matter. Food costs are right at the top of everybody's list though so, they won't stop noticing that.
