how could the Bushies become completely tone deaf on this issue? The Bushie handling of this port deal is the equivalent of the Bill Buckner World Series ground ball.
Don't really have an answer for you on that Eric. I don't support his decision but am interested on how it will play out.

(My own honest assessment is that there are probably many deals just like this that are all ready on the books and have been for some time and this particular one came to light for pure political reasons.)
I would think so also.

Next, what is your opinion as to why GWB is being so stubborn on this one?
I don't have any ideas to his motives. One bad guess would it would be to appease the only Arab allies we have in this fight against terrorism. A better guess would be to follow the trail of the money. Who stands to benefit? I do know that the Democrats outcry was not necessarily for National Security as it was pressure from any unions associated with ports. At some point America has to realize that Capitalism has it's limits. That obviously is not going to happen under Bush.

To be honest, I am completely flummoxed on this whole thing. Politically, as a Democrat, I am in euphoria over the political capital this Bushie miscue is providing, but as one who follows political machinations, I am bewildered at how a political party could make such a blunder.
He has time to recover before the midterms but this was not a good move.
