The police report asserts Gates yelled and behaved aggressively. Gates denies this. The charges have been dropped. In short, Gates was arrested even though the police officer was fully aware that Gates lived in the home.
I was not there so I can't say but if the officer backed down after the event then it is very possible that they(PD) got enormus pressure to drop the charges, not that he never acted aggressively.
