Dale,

For every story of a weapons-trained victim successfully thwarting an attack, what of the instances where untrained people (including some cops) couldn't control their reactions, who couldn't hit the target, or tragically hit a bystander? Sure, there are success stories, and often times it seems to be an off-dry cop or former member of the military who performs so well, but understand, the price for those relatively few success stories is carnage (30,000 per year). I know you don't want to hear it, but I think EEE is the person best informed to discuss situations such as this. Look, I'm of course happy for the people in the article, but I believe their situation is an outlier. Are you of the opinion that our society would be better off if there were more people armed? Wouldn't it be more likely to see arguments escalate to uses of lethal force? I have to think so, Dale.
