In a nutshell, for those who dislike reading or thinking - Durbin's meaning is simply this - if one had listed the abuses found at Gitmo and in the war on terror and then venture a guess what country was behind such abuses, the person would surely think it was some other repressive regime. And as I ADMITTED he could have chosen his words more carefull. HOWEVER, take off the blinders you head in the sand right winger - American abuse and torture in the war on terrorism is inexcusable. Chem lights being stuck in rectums, allowing the rape of young boys to go unchecked, wiping menstrual blood on faces, beatings, and yes, even murder, is indefensible. However, those on the right seem to be fine with, while I am not.(One thing that really amazes me is how many people have been lulled into disbelief of how great Gitmo is after seeing the GOVERNMENTAL released video clips of these prisoners praying and walking around. That in and of itself should be a huge red flag - think about the manipulation there - Gitmo gets some negative press, so let's release ONLY positive video
clips).
I'd also suggest for those intrested to go back and read articles written by Seymour Hersh - a real journlist. He has documented many, many acts of abuse and has pointed out that the same who brought us Gitmo are those same ones who brought us Abu Ghraib. Time Magazine's recent cover story details the interrogation of who is thought to be the suspected 20th hi-jacker. I suggest those who thing Gitmo is all fun and games to pick it up. For those who know nothing about successful interrogation methods I suggest they read it. Guess when they started getting information from this suspected 20th hi-jacker? When they stopped tactics that bordered on torture. Below is the link to the article on Annan and how AMERICAN appointees have been behind more scandals than he has even touched. Though since it is not out of O'Lielly or Limpball's mouth, I guess it is not credible. And since the season for insults seems to be open, I guess it is only fair for me to suggest that since it is more than 50 words long and without pictures, I guess it's safe to assume it won't be read by Pat and Dale.http://www.thenation.com/doc.mhtml?i=20050110&s=williamsNow, Pat and Dale, I suggest you two pull your heads out of your own asses and ask yourself this - forget all the philisophical debate over America and what it stands for, since obviously that debate means absolutely nothing to you two - but think of the future for our soliders and how all this shit impacts upon them as prisoners of war. How the fuck do we expect them to be treated with dignity and respect if captured, when we ourselves refuse to do the same thing? And one step further - the rotten pricks that are coming up with this treatment are never the ones who ever have to fear of being taken as a prisoner of war - they are too safe and too far removed to worry about it.
