Greetings!May 27th saw the release of nearly eight hours of classic live
Led Zeppelin in two seperate multimedia sets:3-CD Set titled HOW THE WEST WAS WON and 2-DVD Set
titled LED ZEPPELIN DVD.The DVD set times out at five hours and twenty-one
minutes of classic performances from all phases of their
career, including the songs left out of the SONG REMAINS
THE SAME concert film, and the two promotional videos that
accompanied the release of the 1990 remastered Led
Zeppelin studio box set.The centerpiece of DVD # 1 is the complete 1970 Royal
Albert Hall performance, which shows the band at the
beginning of their short ride to the top. Also included on DVD
# 1 is a selection of 1969 european television performances.DVD # 2 is where things get interesting --- the disc begins
with a 1972 performance of Immigrant Song. Then it jumps
into the four missing performances from the 1973 Madison
Square Garden shows that comprised THE SONG REMAINS
THE SAME concert film that would be released in 1976.Next, we get the acoustic set from the infamous 1975 Earl's
Court shows --- it is nice to finally get this stuff on my library
shelves. Knebworth '79 is represented by the best fifty minutes on
stage during those shows, including a blsitering four song
finale of Achilles Last Stand, In The Evening, Kashmir, and
Whole Lotta Love --- reminding the viewer that when these
guys rocked, they could not be matched in sheer bombast
and blues. The DVD concludes with some rare interviews and the two
videos from the promotion of the 1990 box set.It was also great to hear all of this mixed in DTS 5.1
Surround (Dolby is also included). The 3-CD Set is two and a half hours from two consecutive
nights in 1972, from the shows in Los Angeles and Long
Beach on June 25 and June 27, 1972.If you are a LED ZEPPELIN fan, this is obviously
TERRITORIAL IMPERATIVE and MUST-OWN material!!!KDB RATING: 10 points out of 10
