in America we can't have a rational firearm discussion is every time one starts, people like you immediately resort to using inflammatory language, knee jerk political BS and diatribes. Eric I would not say it was knee jerk, I would call it not letting a tragedy go to waste without trying to advance a political agenda. I'm not being a smart-ass but that is exactly what this is.

Time magazine just had a two page layout on mass shootings and firearms. In the world, the US (of industrialized, modern nations) has the highest murder rate when it comes to firearms. So do people really think when this nation can't even discuss the level of violence we have in a rational manner that we can also have a serious discussion about firearms? Sure lets have a discussion but lets put a couple of things on the table the press seems to ignore:

1. Violence in Movies and TV seems to be over-glorified and you don't think this effects the minds of children and adults? The delay of the release of Django was prime example. Hell a week delay the movie premiers and we have yet another mass shooting.
2. Violence in Video Games - Same thing

I've owned 1 gun in my adult life, a Winchester 22 rife and I fired for the 1st time in 30 years about 6 months ago. I don't like guns in the house, which is why I have never purchased a handgun. But if we make it illegal to own an assault rife(semi-automatic rife with a plastic stock) you will just see some guy with 2 handguns and lots of magazines go in commit yet another tragedy. It's not the gun per se but the individual committing the crime we need to focus on. I'm all for a good discussion on preventing this from happening in the future but I'm not seeing viable solutions being brought to the table.
