You began this thread I hope you recall with a post titled "Let's talk about gun control" which went on to say the following:

"It appears to me that the left has immediately glommend on to the idea that the EBR is the culprit (Evil Black Rifle) in the recent killing of 26 people (mostly children) in CT."

Ok, so the first thing you do is politicize your argument by framing it with the "Left" going after a specific type of gun which you of course give a stupid name...the "Evil Black Rifle."

So, obviously you want to talk politics because you are framing it that way. Now, all I can tell you is that's not really the best way to begin the discussion and it sort of stinks of sarcasm with the whole "EBR" stupidity so...I think many people probably got the feeling you were just baiting the hook and looking for trouble.

You continue:

"As such, the immediate knee jerk reaction is to ban all EBRs. (but it failed BIG time for a lot of politicians the last time the left tried that and I can tell you why)"

Again more politics and labeling the reaction to this horrific event "knee jerk" telling us that you are not taking things people are saying about the tragedy seriously and you don't think much of the reaction.

Well, the reactions I recall to what happened had to do with yet another mass shooting, the deaths of children, dealing with mental illness in the country in a better way, and finding a way to prevent this kind of thing happening again including ways to keep guns out of the hands of people that should not have them.

As far as I recall I don't remember anybody screaming about "evil black rifles" and banning them all...I do recall talk of reinstating the assault weapons ban of 1994 which had bipartisan support...see the following:

-----------

May 3, 1994 To Members of the U.S. House of Representatives:

We are writing to urge your support for a ban on the domestic manufacture of military-style assault weapons. This is a matter of vital importance to the public safety. Although assault weapons account for less than 1% of the guns in circulation, they account for nearly 10% of the guns traced to crime.

Every major law enforcement organization in America and dozens of leading labor, medical, religious, civil rights and civic groups support such a ban. Most importantly, poll after poll shows that the American public overwhelmingly support a ban on assault weapons. A 1993 CNN/USA Today/Gallup Poll found that 77% of Americans support a ban on the manufacture, sale, and possession of semi-automatic assault guns, such as the AK-47.

The 1989 import ban resulted in an impressive 40% drop in imported assault weapons traced to crime between 1989 and 1991, but the killing continues. Last year, a killer armed with two TEC9s killed eight people at a San Francisco law firm and wounded several others. During the past five years, more than 40 law enforcement officers have been killed or wounded in the line of duty by an assault weapon.

While we recognize that assault weapon legislation will not stop all assault weapon crime, statistics prove that we can dry up the supply of these guns, making them less accessible to criminals. We urge you to listen to the American public and to the law enforcement community and support a ban on the further manufacture of these weapons.

Sincerely,

Gerald R. Ford

Jimmy Carter

Ronald Reagan

So, what you are babbling about is not even an accurate assessment of what is taking place but rather a reactionary rant from somebody worried about his AR-15 or that reads too much NRA propaganda.

You continue in your opening post:

"I understand that (what you believe) on the very surface because I own one. I just don't think to mow down kids down with it. Or anybody else. But it does have a purpose and I am willing to talk about that."

I think you may have wanted to word this in such a way that you do not seem to be mocking the idea that children were "mowed down" and I'm sure we all hope that is not something that goes through your head. Just a poor choice of words really.

Then you wrap up by insulting everybody reading your post:

"So ask a guy with an EBR anything and I will try to help you regain a logical sense."

So, we're all illogical and the guy making smartass comments about a tragic shooting is the person we need to "help" us. It sure seems as if you have more concern about a shitty rifle than you do the tragic deaths of those children and the people you are mocking. For the record I am familiar with and have used a wide variety of weapons over the course of my life including the AR-15...so, I don't need you to tell me anything about it. You should probably have started by asking if people were familiar with these weapons rather than acting like a jackass.

And you close out with:

"Even though I know that on this front, you'll never understand. Here is a starter for you."

Never understand what? You talk about these guns as if there is some mysterious secret behind them that you would need to journey to the top of the mountain and visit the oracle to understand...here's a clue...there's nothing to understand. You say this over and over in this thread "Oh this guy does not get it...this guy gets it!" then you post a video that appears to be a total joke.

So, let me ask you this...why begin the conversation sounding like such an asshole if what you really wanted to do was to have a discussion?

This was just your opening post and all you did was go downhill from there…
