I have separate takes on voters and elected officials. The elected officials know EXACTLY what they are doing. They know how corrupt Trump is, that he is pushing all of them to participate in the corruption and they participate willingly...knowing it is wrong and will do horrible damage to this country and has.
Voters living where ever they live are harder to track mainly because I have no idea what they may believe or think. If they are FOX news viewers they are being completely misinformed. So, I can understand if they are living on some fictional planet somewhere if they are being fed a regular diet of FOX, Rush, One America, Trump's Twitter feed...whatever. I don't think we've ever had such a heinous and poisonous propaganda network operating to intentionally misinform the public and drive this country into chaos.
The RNC just ran a 5 day event where they literally promoted the idea that people of color are coming to destroy suburban neighborhoods. This was outrageous and should not have ever been allowed on television. However, under the guise of it being a major political party's convention they ran it.
The big "speakers" at the event were all family members of the president and nutjobs. There was not a sane voice to be found among them. That's a problem. We are living in a lunatic South American dictatorship right now, Ross, and I am certain you should recognize it.
I'm not having any kind of conversation here about rugged individualism or libertarians...I'm talking about the totally and utter collapse of a major political party in this country and where it may be leading us. I don't at all see it as a good thing that there is no more Republican party. The few saner elected members of that party are going to start welcoming Q Anon freaks into the tent. The Freedom caucus has already been working their destructive magic and Mitch McConnell takes great pride in turning the entire congressional body into a stagnant wasteland where nothing happens except appointing pro corporate judges that will support gerrymandering, and eliminating taxes for the wealthiest Americans. He is not doing that for the good of the country...he is working hard to restructure this country to meet the Russian oligarchical model.
If you let these guys run things they will eliminate elections completely as they don't want voting. This is pretty damn obvious based upon how they are approaching this upcoming election.
The gentleman in the article Dslack posted seems stunned that the party so easily gave up all their "values" to become the party of Putin. Well, all it took to get there was to end up with a front man like Trump who would embrace the corruption, point to what a great model Putin is, and have no shame in doing so.
An angry, misinformed public signed on for the ride and here we are.
