With all of this going on, Bill Maher might have offered the most accurate and basic motive for Trump taking these documents - that in his mind they belong to him and he owns them. I know that sounds quite ridiculous, but you know, it sort of makes sense.
As for getting other people to assist him, I almost believe that Trump and his followers believe that he had the power to "declassify" everything on a whim.
Along with this, it would not surprise me that in these documents there are many things that could embarrass Trump and others.
But what I find so discouraging is the many people on the right that are bending over backward to defend and excuse all of this. I have heard several lawyers and security experts state unequivocally that a sitting US President does not have the authority to declassify anything he or she would want to and what went on today at Faux? Their guests were declaring just the opposite - that he could declassify anything he wanted to by just saying so.
