It certainly is disturbing. I think the most alarming thing is a culture of denial that has moved from the hidden recesses of the subconscious to an overt Machiavellian strategy. It really does feel like a cult; follow us and you never have to take responsibility for anything - election losses, personal failings, impending global catastrophe, anything.
