I'm one of those guys...or will be soon. My attitude on firearms has changed a lot the last few years, and I'm in the camp (and consider myself far from paranoid) that fully believes that part of the design of the second amendment-- and the entire Bill of Rights, for that matter--is to protect the citizenry from its government. Not that I expect to have to take up arms against my government, it should never ever come to that, but if our government was to take away our arms...that's something we should be looking at very very closely.

The other side of all of this is that the proposed legislation, along with the 1994 Assault Weapons ban, will do nothing to keep guns out of the hands of the people who use them for violent crime. Those guns are already illegal, so what good does it do to make every gun illegal?
