The bond and the fine are 2 different things. When one is found guilty in a civil trial, a find is levied. Trump's fine was close to almost $5 million. In NY state, when appealing a civil trial verdict, a bond in the amount of the entire fine is required to be posted before the appeal will be considered. Because there are at least 2 separate systems of justice in this country: one for wealthy white men who whine and cry when they are caught with their hands in the cookie jar where they have been their entire life and the one for the rest of those and then another one for people of color.

Because Trump is able to go through the first mentioned system of justice, the appeals court decided that they would reduce the BOND that he would have to put up to have the appeal considered AND would get 10 extra days to come up with that money. Meanwhile I will just say that there was a black teenager at, I believe, Riker's Island that was accused of stealing a back pack which I think he actually did not even do, and he could not pay he bail and ended up staying in jail for years. (If I don't have this story right, somebody please jump in.) At some point, and I don't recall if it was when he was still in jail without a trial because he could not afford bail or when he got out of jail, he was so depressed about the situation that he died by suicide. That's that 3rd system of justice.

But I digress...At the end of 10 days, Trump had to put up the bond for the appeal to be considered. If the appeal is denied, which many legal pundits say is probably what will happen because Judge Engeron backed up every $1 of the fine in his decision, Trump will have to pay the ENTIRE almost $5million FINE. And on the day the appeal decision is reached, the entire fine is due and if not paid in full, NY AG James will begin collection proceedings.
