Come on Dale are you kidding? This is the government staying out of an issue they don't belong involved with. It's up to you as a parent to stay in touch with what's happening in your child's life. You know right now in Massachusetts they are considering creating legislation to ban junk food from schools, citing things like soda, twinkies, Oreo's, etc...because of all this uproar about trans fats. Now while I think it's a good idea that kids don't eat this stuff, that's the parent's call as to whether they can. I mean this is what I'm talking about, if you start creating legislation to "Parent when the parents don't parent" you have seriously screwed things up. The govenment is not supposed to become Big Brother, Big Father, or Big Mother. I don't want my tax dollars spent on paying politicians to argue issues they should never have addressed in the first place. I mean they should focus on not feeding their own kids Oreo's and Coca Cola, not tell me or anyone else if my kid can have it while he's at school or anywhere else. That's nuts. And before you start anything about the difference between kids eating junk food and abortion, I'm not comparing the two, just stating the absolute lunacy of the govenment being involved in either issue.
