I'll accept that it might be that the Geneva Convention does not apply to terrorists, but don't you at least first have to determine if the person being held and tortured really is a terrorist? I mean, where's the evidence absent some kind of trial?
I think the suggestion that the release of more pictures from Abu Grab will endanger American soldiers' lives is quite simply bullshit. They are already in danger just being over there. The Administration doesn't want them released because they'd rather lock up a few bad apples than admit that maybe, just possibly, those bad apples were actually scape goats.
I don't think Senators or anyone should be determining torture techniques. I don't think we should stoop to that level.
I am beginning to think that "terrorism" is the "communism" of our era. That vast unknown problem out there that will require untold billions of dollars to fix. Somewhere along the line, we forgot what this was all about. We lost 3,000 people. What's the death toll in Iraq now? How much treasure have we thrown away compared to what was lost on 9/11? And, are we really any safer? If you ask Dick Cheney, he would say, "no," we are still in danger and we must spend more and more.
I don't deny that Abu Grab got more press than heads being chopped off. We know what terrorists do. What's more shocking to our conscience is what we will stoop to do in return.
One day we will look back in anger. We will wonder how we sold ourselves out..
