Once this gets started we will annihilate the Iraqi army and help put in a new government. Having given up hope of avoiding the confrontation I hope both are sucessful beyond our wildest hopes. That new government will be eager to rebuild the Iraqi economy, and they will happily allow foreign oil interests to buy into the massive oil reserves.
Then these companies, with a significant portion of the stockholders being American, will have acquired territory in a foreign land. And then we as a country will be "rightfully" entitled to defend those interests at any future juncture.
So if someone simplifies it to "imperialism", please try to keep up.
